Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A, Inc. is a family owned & privately held restaurant company devoted to serving the local communities in which its restaurants operate. Known for its original chicken sandwich & unique franchise model, Chick-fil-A serves freshly prepared food in more than 1,900 restaurants in 42 states & Washington, D.C.

1964-Founder & Chairman Emeritus S. Truett Cathy invents the Original Chicken Sandwich. 1973-The Team Member Scholarship program is established to encourage Chick-fil-A Restaurant employees to further their education. 1985-First full-service Chick-fil-A Dwarf House opened in Jonesboro, GA. Waffle fries were introduced. 1986-First stand-alone restaurant opens in Altanta, GA. The first breakfast item, the Chick-fil-A Chicken Biscuit, is introduced. 1993-First drive-thru restaurant opens at McAllister Square Mall in Greenville, S.C. The 500th restaurant also opens.
2000-Chick-fil-A surpasses $1 billion in system-wide sales. 2001-1,000th restaurant location opens. 2006-Chick-fil-A surpasses $2 billion in system-wide sales & introduces Hand-Spun Milkshakes. 2007-Celebrates its 40th anniversary as a restaurant chain. 2009-Awards it's 25,000th Leadership scholarship. 2010-Opens its 1500th location in the Los Angeles area & its first stand-alone location in the Chicagoland area. The Spicy Chicken sandwich is introduced.2014-Reaches $5 billion in system-wide sales.

By the end of 2019, all chicken served in Chick-fil-A restaurants will be raised without antibiotics. Chick-fil-A was the first quick service restaurant to shift to No Antibiotics standard.
